ADULT: Wingspan - 40 - 45mm. A stunning moth with a green thorax, green forewings crossed by two parallel white lines and white hindwings. Antennae, palps and upper parts of the front legs are salmon pink. CHRYSALIS: Pale greenish with a black stripe running from the head along the thorax to the fourth abdominal ring. Found in a boat shaped cocoon which has the keel raised at the head end and is usually found under leaf of foodplant. LARVA: Green with white edged dark line running along the back. Feeds on the leaves of Oaks. Overwinters in this stage. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and sugar. HABITAT: Broadleaved woodland, parks and gardens. FLIGHT PERIOD: June and July. STATUS: Resident and local, more so in the North. |
